Crops which are grown in small volumes of compost such as strips and pots face the inherent problem of the compost only being able to hold relatively small amounts of water resulting in high watering frequencies.
The addition of SwellGel to the compost will dramatically increase the water holding capacity and extend watering intervals by double or more.
During the winter months SwellGel only releases stored water as needed, preventing an overwatering situation and allowing the compost to be kept on the drier side helping to reduce the possibilities of disease.
SwellGel will provide peace of mind and allow extra time to be spent in other important areas plus provides quality results in the home and garden for total satisfaction.
Application
Incorporate dry SwellGel granules into the compost at a rate of 1kg/m³ (1000 litres) of compost (equivalent to 1g per litre). After planting water well twice at 1 hour intervals to fully charge the SwellGel granules.
Hanging Baskets
With a highly populated amount of plants in a relatively small amount of growing media, competition for water and nutrients is high.
SwellGel helps maintaining adequate water supplies and drastically reduces watering frequencies whilst providing an environment for improved plant growth.
Application
• Mix with compost at planting up stage – mix dry granules into bottom ¾ of basket compost or add to compost as a pre-mix.
• Water well twice at 1 hour intervals to fully charge the SwellGel granules.
Rates
15-25cm (6-10in) diameter ....... 1-2 scoops
30-40cm (12-16in) diameter ..... 3-4 scoops
45-60cm (18-24in) diameter ..... 5-6 scoops
Or 1-2 scoops for every 10 litres of compost
Already planted hanging baskets:
• Make a number of holes in the compost and add SwellGel as directed in the table (opposite).
• Place ½ scoop measures of SwellGel into each hole.

Nursery Stock & Tree Production
SwellGel has the capability to maintain the structure of the growing media and store water helping to meet the requirements for good growth. Even in the winter period of prolonged and heavy rainfall, an improved and aerated growing media will be maintained by the physical properties of SwellGel, keeping the structure and drainage channels open and air content to the highest possible level.
Therefore the moment growth can begin everything is set and ready to go, leading to stimulated stress free growth whilst maintaining quality and reducing further input costs.

Compost Additive
Mix dry SwellGel granules into specialist compost mix to help maintain composts open structure, air fill porosity (AFP). The irregular shaped chunks of SwellGel will help to create many more air spaces as an interface between the compost and SwellGel.
